Registration with the Municipal Registry Office ("Ufficio Anagrafe") (Only for EU Students)
If you are an EU citizen, as of April 11, 2007, you are allowed to move without restrictions in Italy without applying for a Stay Permit. During the first 3 months of your stay, you have no requirements to meet if you have a valid identity document. After 90 days of uninterrupted stay in Italy, you have to register with the Municipality Registry Office of the city where your accommodation is located in IMT’s case Comune di Lucca - "Ufficio Anagrafe").
You can contact the Campus Management and Front Office of the IMT School for an appointment, which looks after the procedure to fulfill this legal obligation.
- A valid passport or ID;
- Your Tax ID Code (Codice Fiscale);
- An IMT Attendance Certificate, issued by the PhD and Higher Education Office. (This document declares that you are an IMT student, states that you are a scholarship recipient and that you have the accommodation provided by the School);
- A Health Insurance valid for a 12 month period (an EHIC Card is acceptable, but you can also subscribe to a private health insurance or to the NHS).
"Domicilio" or domicile is the place where the person has established his/her principal place of business and interests.
"Residenza" or residence is identified as the place of fixed living, with all the corresponding fiscal and tax implications.
e.g: You have your "Residenza" in the country where you have registered your residence and when you start your PhD Programme living on the IMT Campus, you will have your "Domicilio" in Lucca (in Piazza San Francesco, 19 or Brunero Paoli, 31).
