Italian Bank/Post Office Account
The Italian banks offer current accounts, savings accounts, as well as joint accounts for couples (co-registered current account). Each bank may offer special conditions for students. In general, there are no fees for cash withdrawals from your bank’s ATM and payments at shops within the country. These services are also provided by online accounts, such as prepaid cards or IBAN account cards (prepaid cards usually have lower monthly fees than traditional current accounts).
Non-EU Students are invited to open an Italian/European account in order to receive their scholarship, as sometimes foreign accounts may encounter delays or problems if some necessary fields to be filled out are missing e.g. BIC/SWIFT code. Instead, if you are an EU Student or have a European IBAN it is not necessary for you to open an account in Italy in order to receive the scholarship.
Bank accounts can be opened in Italy by both residents and non-residents from 18 years of age, going to the branch or proceeding directly online. We suggest that you ask the bank about the possible options and, before making a decision, that you always verify the specific conditions (i.e. fees for operations, etc.). On the IMT School website, at the link here, you can find some banks that offer special deals to IMT students and staff.
