Recognising people’s faces: from prosopagnosia to brain representations

Faces convey important information that we use when communicating with other people. We look at faces to recognise others, understand their feelings and intentions, and decide how to act. I will talk about three lines of my work on understanding face processing in the brain. First, I will discuss the brain correlates of developmental prosopagnosia, a condition in which people have severe difficulty recognising faces. Second, I will talk about a recent case study that provides novel insights into the origin of the face inversion effect.
And third, I will discuss how different face-responsive regions in the human brain encode distinct information about faces.
