Applicants must hold a second-level university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) valid for PhD access in the country of issuance by October 31, 2025. The programmes are open to candidates of any nationality and from a variety of academic backgrounds, depending on the PhD programme and track selected. A formal English certificate is not required, but a strong command of the English language is essential, as all classes and activities are held in English.
The application deadlines for the 2025/2026 academic year are:
Cultural Systems (CS): May 28, 2025 at 1:00 PM (CEST)
Systems Science (SyS): May 30, 2025 at 1:00 PM (CEST)
Economics, Analytics and Decision Sciences (EADS): June 12, 2025 at 1:00 PM (CEST)
Mind, Brain and Human Thought (MBHT): June 30, 2025 at 1:00 PM (CEST)
All students receive a scholarship (€1,195 net/month) and additional funding for mobility, conferences and research-related travel. Students are offered hotel-style double rooms for 3 years, free daily lunch and dinner, desk space and access to various campus amenities, including a gym, social areas and study spaces.
This makes the PhD programme at the IMT School a truly fully funded and cost-free opportunity.
Living on campus means being immersed in a vibrant academic community with students from over 30 countries. The IMT School’s campus is located in the historic city centre of Lucca, a beautiful Tuscan town known for its music festivals, quality of life and rich history.
Student life includes:
