IMT Papers
The IMT Papers Series aims at contributing to the debate on topics that are relevant to the activities of the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca. The IMT Papers are characterized by a strong trans-, multi-, and interdisciplinary approach, which is a distinctive feature of the IMT School’s activities.
The IMT School is organized around four multidisciplinary scientific areas, which constitute its foundational research lines: Economics, Management, and Statistics; Systems Science; Cultural Systems; Neuroscience, Psychology, and Philosophy. Each area encompasses numerous disciplines, including economics, statistics, management, engineering, physics, computer science, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, aesthetics, archaeology, art history, museology, law, and history.
These four areas are not isolated from one another. The strength of the IMT School lies in its ability to foster dialogue and interconnections among diverse competences, methodologies, and perspectives, driven by shared problems and research themes, while educating young scholars. These young researchers do not work within separate fields; rather, they are trained to cross disciplinary boundaries. In a world where extreme specialization can create divisions, interdisciplinarity becomes a bridge—a source of new questions, new perspectives, and new solutions.
The IMT Papers therefore aim to strengthen both the research activities and the dissemination efforts of the IMT School, in line with its commitment to innovation and interdisciplinarity.
The series includes papers submitted by IMT fellows as well as by other scholars and/or practitioners. Papers selected by the IMT Papers Steering Committee are published electronically and made available online.
The IMT Papers Series also reflects the IMT School’s commitment to the broad and open dissemination of scientific knowledge. Ensuring that research outputs are freely accessible enhances transparency, reproducibility, and societal impact—core principles of open science. By promoting open access publication and encouraging scholars to share data, methodologies, and insights, the series supports a research culture that is collaborative, cumulative, and globally connected. In an academic ecosystem where knowledge advances through exchange, the IMT Papers help create a shared space in which ideas can circulate freely and interdisciplinary inquiry can flourish.
IMT Papers are issued under the sole responsibility of their authors and do not reflect the views of the IMT School or its associated personnel.
