IMT for Peace

In a complex present marked by dramatic global geopolitical crises, the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca strongly reaffirms its role as an institution committed to social progress, civic responsibility and the protection of fundamental rights.

Today more than ever, universities and the scientific community must serve as beacons of democracy and open spaces for peaceful dialogue. As they are places where consciences are formed, standards of judgment are transmitted, and the ability to interpret the present using rational tools and moral sensitivity is preserved. In the face of the conflicts and suffering afflicting peoples, the IMT Lucca School of Advanced Studies expresses its unwavering solidarity with all communities and individuals who are victims of war, repression and violence.

  • The Academic Senate of the IMT School has approved a motion regarding the situation in Gaza, the events surrounding the Global Sumud Flotilla and the School’s commitment during these difficult times.

  • Scholars at Risk (SAR) is an international network of universities founded in 1999 at the University of Chicago with the aim of promoting academic freedom worldwide and protecting scholars whose lives are in danger or whose work is severely compromised.

  • RUniPace is the Network of Italian Universities for Peace, promoted by the Conference of Italian University Rectors. The Network comprises universities that base their actions on the fundamental principles of the Constitution, the United Nations Charter, the founding treaties of the European Union, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and the Council of Europe.
