Lucca, 1 June 2026 – The IMT School Library has acquired numerous volumes from the collection of Sebastiano Scarcella, an Italian jurist, administrative magistrate, honorary president of the Council of State, and Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. The collection, which has now become part of the IMT School Library’s holdings, includes important works in the fields of law and institutional history, including the preparatory documents of the Constituent Assembly and the Encyclopaedia of Law published by Giuffrè, a fundamental reference work for generations of scholars. In addition to interesting commentaries on the university system. These are texts that President Scarcella himself had collected during his long and distinguished career. Of particular significance are the eight volumes of the preparatory works of the Constituent Assembly, a collection that reproduces the debate leading to the Italian Constitution, drawn from the Proceedings of the Constituent Assembly. The work, edited by the Chamber of Deputies, is an indispensable tool for understanding the debate that led to the birth of the Italian Constitution.

“Welcoming these volumes into our library,” says Lorenzo Casini, Rector of the IMT School, “means preserving and promoting an important part of Italian legal culture and beyond. On the eve of 2 June and the 80th anniversary of the Republic, these texts dedicated to the Constituent Assembly take on great significance, recalling the roots of our democracy. I would also like to thank President Scarcella’s family for their generosity. This is a precious gift to the School’s library collection, available to everyone, from the academic community to the general public.”
